About us
Atomos was founded in 2018 to make any orbit as accessible as LEO. Using our experience with commercial, deep space, and defense space missions, we are building an in-space logistics network of space-resident Orbital Transfer Vehicles (OTVs) to provide Delta-V on Demand to satellites and payloads.
Our Quark OTVs enable impossible missions: cost-effective life extension and end-of-life disposal, rapid inclination reduction, access to deep space from LEO and rideshare launches, and precise payload delivery and attachment.
Underpinning Atomos’ service offerings are the technology pillars of the future in-space economy - ubiquitous and scalable spacecraft rendezvous systems and break-through in-space propulsion.
Facilities
The Void RPO testbed
Rendezvous and Proximity Operations (“RPO”) and spacecraft docking and capture systems need rigorous ground testing. Atomos developed a one-of-a-kind facility, affectionately called The Void, to test with flight-like dynamics in a high-fidelity, real-time, hardware-in-the-loop manner.
The 50x20ft low-friction floor monitored by a precise motion capture system hosts robotic twins of Quark and potential clients. The special 5-degree-of-freedom, ground-based, air-bearing-mounted variant of Quark is equipped with replicas of the flight avionics, software, inertial and relative navigation subsystems, docking systems, and capture systems.
Rapid spacecraft manufacturing, prototyping, and test
Atomos operates out of a 20,000sft facility in Broomfield, Colorado. The facility supports rapid prototyping with an extensive machine shop, additive manufacturing, and laboratory. The custom cleanroom allows build of four spacecraft simultaneously. The facility also houses avionics assembly, environmental test (thermal vacuum), deployable structure test, RPO propulsion test, and several testbeds for hardware-in-the-loop testing of vehicles and ground systems.
